For example, if you (a hungry person) were to walk into a food court/mall which has a variety of food stalls selling delicious food, you will have the upper hand because supply exceeds your demand for food. You can afford to stroll around the food court/mall and&amp;nbsp;take your own sweet time to choose what you want to eat. You can compare the prices and the appearance of the food or other factors important to you. To put it simply, you have the negotiation power. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;On the other hand, if you (a hungry person) were to walk into a food court/mall which has only 1 food stall. This time round, the food stall owner will have the upper hand. You cannot afford to pick and choose as supply is limited and your demand for food exceeds supply vis-a-vis the first scenario. The food stall owner will, in most instances, not have the time to smile so much and greet you, he will be busy attending to other customers and it is up to yourself to queue up and obediently follow his rules, ie he can choose to give you a small food portion or he can choose to serve you slowly and take his time. Likewise for meat. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;It is so cosmopolitan nowadays with people of various backgrounds and cultures walking around almost everywhere. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The economy is also doing pretty well, with the mining industry in WA outperforming other already high performing areas such as tourism, education, finance, trade, agriculture etc. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;In terms of entertainment, one can get to see beautiful sights and scenery with magnificant icons such as the&amp;nbsp;twelve apostles in Melbourne and the Sydney Harbour Bridge and Opera House in Sydney. It is a service-related business that started in 2006. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The boss is someone with an entrepreneurial spirit. He runs the business almost single-handedly, with only one part-time assistant. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;He understands the importance of the marketing mix (product, price, place, promotion, service, goodwill etc) and applies it in an effective and balanced manner to ensure that sales stay at a very healthy level, while keeping costs low. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The boss first started with a service that he knew consumers need and that there were not many competitors at that time. So he did his market research and combined the use of the marketing mix in such a way that he did well in his first year of business operations. From 2007 and 2008, he diversified into other service areas, and has done equally well, particularly in the promotional aspect of his various service lines. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Now, he could easily make a net profit of between $90,000 - $99,000 a year. It certainly beats working for someone, where one has to listen to mostly demanding orders from the bosses and cope with the everyday office politics. decisions are based entirely on WHAT THE CONSUMER WANTS.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;So an effective business is always trying to balance between satisfying the consumer on the one hand, while still making (short and sweet) from my point of view is the below:&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Marketing is concerned with meeting business or organisational objectives by providing customers or consumers with satisfied goods and/or services.&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;There are other longer versions that specify various elements like the marketing mix, but the above is the 'straight to the
